After overcoming car sickness on the long drive up from Brisbane to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in the Gold Coast Hinterland, the six of us checked into our 3x bedroom villa that had the most amazing views over the countryside. A quick unpack of abundant food and wine for our weekend away, and working out how to turn on the damn gas fireplace … we all settled into finding our cosy spots for two days of writing ahead of us.
With wine (or tea) in hand, laptops powered up, the words started to flow. Tania Joyce worked on her sequel to Propositions – working title “Acquisitions”. Kendall Talbott worked on Treasure Lies, Isabella Hargreaves edited Journey’s End, Noelle Clark pumped out an impressive word count on Honor’s Promise, Anthea Jones tackled the Sparkleberry Thief, her YA novel, and Matt JX – plotted and planned his next masterpiece.
Breaks involved a bottle of Moet to celebrate all our successes and a walk through the lovely rainforest boardwalk.
The food kept on flowing with chicken curry and lasagne dinners, scrumptious desserts and Noelle’s Limoncillo.
Our accommodation was wonderful, complete with 3 x bedroom – all with their own ensuite. With breathtaking scenery and awesome company we all had an amazing time and churned out an incredible amount of work.
Looking forward to next years retreat already.
